The NAACP Mercer County Branch sponsored a bus to Kent State University on Friday, January 10, 2025 and was honored to provide this opportunity for 18 youth and 15 adults. Keeping in line with the NAACP Resolution from 2023, under the Education topic, the Historical Recognition Fisk University Women’s Gymnastics Team.F
Fisk University, Wilberforce University and Kent State opened their Gymnastics season in rare form. Fisk University, in their second year and first HBCU to have a gymnastics program, and Wilberforce University, in its first year, put on a fantastic competition. Although they came up a little short, it was a great opportunity for our youth to see these ladies in competition.
We were able to have a meet and greet with the Fisk University Team and their Coach, Corrinne Tarver. One of our youth, Prielle Roundtree, made signs for all the gymnasts which they took time to autograph.
Kent State University were gracious hosts as they invited our youth to participate in the ‘high five’ tunnel as the gymnasts entered the gym. They even announced the NAACP Mercer County Branch as special guests!
